This program provides peer support and guidance for teenagers in the Niagara Region who are having some difficulty in coping with the death of a loved family member or friend. Service is provided by trained volunteer facilitators who coordinate an eight week peer support program for teens (age 13 - 19). Topics such as feelings, holidays and special occasions, commemorating and saying goodbye are explained.

Communication is facilitated through a variety of teen-centered activities. Referrals may be made by anyone including teachers, family members, health care professionals, Home Care, clergy, friends or neighbours. Programs are offered twice a year - in the spring and fall. Registration is required. There is no fee for services.

TEEN 2 TEEN: MY GRIEF STORY
The Teen 2 Teen: My Grief Story one day retreat will be held on Thursday, May 9th.  This is a one-day retreat for teens, 14 to 19 years of age, who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives. It is a peer support based program to assist teens in sharing their story, listening to others, and learning coping strategies for journeying with their grief. We do have a video outlining what the retreat is about, which is located on Vimeo at http://vimeo.com/40632937.

Registration is free and priority will be given to first time attendees. There is limited space so it will be based on a first come first serve basis. Please fill out a registration form and waiver. Our initial deadline for registrations is Thursday, March 21st. The waiver needs to be signed by a parent and/or legal guardian for teens 14 – 17 years of age.  If the teen is 18 years of age, they are able to sign on their own behalf.

For additional information about Teen 2 Teen: My Grief Story, or questions regarding the eligibility of a teen, please contact Melissa Penner at 905-984-8766 extension 233, or teen2teen@hospiceniagara.ca.
