Living Well With Grief

Living Well With Grief

Grief is a normal, natural response to the death of someone in your life. It can be unpredictable. And it’s unique to everyone.

You might have heard the saying, ‘time heals all wounds.’ People sometimes assume that if they ignore grief or that if they just stay really busy, it will eventually go away.

Ignoring grief does not make it go away. We offer grief support programs and workshops for children, youth and adults to help them explore their feelings of loss at their own pace, in a safe and supportive space.

You do not have to do this alone. We are here to help you.

All of our programs and services are offered at no cost to people and families across Niagara.

Grief support for children and youth

Just being a kid is hard enough.

The death of a parent, sibling, relative or a friend can be a devastating experience during an already difficult time in life. Children, tweens and teenagers often feel different than their peers and need support to feel less alone and better understood.

Sometimes as adults we’re not sure what to say or how to support kids who have experienced a death. Maybe we’re dealing with our own grief. While we can’t protect them from loss, we can support them to grieve in healthy, healing ways.

We offer programs that give children and youth a safe space to explore their feelings of grief and loss.

You might be wondering, will I ever feel better? Is this what grief is supposed to feel like?

Maybe people are suggesting that you should just “get over it”, that there is a right and wrong way to grieve, that you just have to “be strong” and not talk about the person who died. (These, by the way, are some very common myths of grief.)

In fact, grief can feel overwhelming and impact many aspects of your life. Grief can affect how you think and how you feel. Your physical health. Your beliefs. You might experience a rollercoaster of emotions. Disbelief. Sadness. Anger. Fear. Grief is unique to everyone.

Grief support helps people feel less alone, supports healthy conversations about grief feelings and provides strategies to promote healing.

We offer a variety of programs and workshops to help adults
